Standard Seven - Micropolitical Leadership
Element 7A: School Executive Micro-Political Leadership
The school executive develops systems and relationships to leverage staff expertise and influence the school's identity, culture and performance.
In the first semester of my internship, I worked closely with the 6th grade assistant principal and our Career Development Coordinator. In September, we attended the 2019 Superintendent's School-to Career Volunteer
Breakfast. During this event, I was able to meet and interact with other educational professionals in Career and Technical Education and Business Alliance partners, who work with our schools to improve student achievement
and provide students with authentic career experiences and training. Participating in this event gave me the opportunity to meet other district leaders who support the school-to-career pipeline and to gain a better understanding of the need for administrators to support and promote the CTE curriculum in middle and high
schools. In addition, I learned that as a future school administrator, it is imperative that I build lucrative relationships with a variety of community partners who share a common vision and beliefs to the district's Vision 2025 Plan.

Administrative Intern Institute
During my residency, I attended all Wake County Administrative Intern Institutes hosted by Cheryl Stidham, the Director of Talent Acquisition. These institutes were professional learning opportunities specifically designed for all full and part time administrative interns and principal residents working in the district. Each institute consisted of a panel of district leaders, principals, and assistant principals who presented information and advised us on the following topics: internal and external communication, equity, hiring and recruiting, interviewing, teacher evaluation expectations, employee relations, social-emotional learning, security, transportation, student assignment, and Title I programs. The leaders from each panel gave us the opportunity to network with them and ask questions about their leadership practices and experiences as WCPSS administrators. I have grown more in my leadership practice and feel more informed about interviewing, evaluations, and district services as a result of attending each intern institute.
