West Millbrook Magnet Middle School has a comprehensive school handbook that serves as a basic guide for all faculty members. Every summer, the administrative team diligently works together to revise and update the information in this handbook for the upcoming school year. During Newcomer’s Camp or new staff orientation, all new faculty receive a printed copy of the handbook. On the first teacher workday at the beginning of the school year, returning staff members receive printed copies of the updated pages. For the convenience of all staff, the handbook is housed in the school's shared Google drive.
This handbook is a user-friendly document consisting of 74 pages. It includes pertinent information all faculty need to know about the general operations, policies, procedures, school safety, and roles and responsibilities of Administration, the Pedagogical Support Team, Student Services, clerical support, and teachers at West Millbrook Magnet Middle School. The mission, vision, and values of West Millbrook are included in this document, as well as the vision, mission, and beliefs of Wake County Public Schools. In this handbook, certified and non-certified staff members will find a copy of the daily A & B-day bell schedule, a detailed explanation of the various types of leave, examples of school-wide communication, expectations for teacher websites, lesson planning, homework, parent contact, and school-wide approaches to discipline. In addition, procedures for collection of funds, morning and afternoon duties, fire, lock down, and severe weather drills are clearly outlined also.
After carefully reading and reviewing our 2019-2020 Staff Handbook, I would not eliminate any of the current content, because I know the information in this booklet is extremely beneficial and useful to all staff members. On the other hand, I would add a section entitled “School-wide Meetings” as a reference for staff members when they need to know the date, time, and location of a specific meeting. Furthermore, I would add the following sections: a description of West Millbrook's IB Magnet program, teacher workdays, national holidays, and the names and dates of holidays that are celebrated and observed by students and staff of diverse backgrounds.
